World number six Calderano leaves Ochsenhausen

World number six Calderano leaves Ochsenhausen

The Brazilian wants to concentrate on his individual career, but still has a big goal in mind before he leaves.

Table tennis cup winners TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen have to cope with the departure of star player Hugo Calderano - at least for the time being. As the TTF announced, the world number six will “concentrate completely on his international singles career” and will no longer play in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) in the coming season. The Brazilian, who had already played there from 2014 to 2021 and returned in 2023, will remain part of the training group in Ochsenhausen.

“Ochsenhausen has been my favorite club for the last eleven years and will remain so, so it's hard for me to say goodbye,” said Calderano. He led Ochsenhausen to victory in the final four of the TTBL Cup at the beginning of January and the 28-year-old has a strong record of 17:1 wins in the league this season.

Thanks in part to him, second-placed Ochsenhausen will play for a place in the semi-finals against 1 FC Saarbrücken in a repeat of the cup final on Thursday (18:00/Dyn). The Olympic fourth-placed player from Paris is still fully focused on the possibility of winning the double before his farewell. He is "not forgetting that we are still fighting for the last title together in the Bundesliga. That is now my full focus," said Calderano.
