Werder Bremen wins again: 3:0 victory against Bergneustadt

SV Werder Bremen remain on the road to success in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) and celebrated their second win in just a few days with a commanding 3:0 home victory against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. After the clear triumph over Bad Homburg on Thursday, the team of coach Cristian Tamas also left nothing to be desired against the guests from the Oberbergischen.

Mattias Falck made short work of Adrien Rassenfosse in the opening singles. The Swedish 2021 doubles world champion played almost flawlessly and put the young Belgian under constant pressure with his powerful game. Falck secured Bremen an early lead in just three sets (11:8, 11:5, 11:6).

It was then up to Andrei Putuntica to extend his lead - and the Moldovan delivered once again. Putuntica put in a concentrated performance against Kanak Jha, winning the first set by the narrow margin of 12:10 in extra time, refusing to be put off by the fact that the set was equalized at one point (7:11) and taking the next point for Werder with 11:7 and 11:7. “I'm playing really well at the moment and I'm very happy,” explained Putuntica after his victory. “I'm not putting myself under much pressure, I'm playing what I can and that's really fun.”

Gerassimenko sets the final point with the rally of the evening

Kirill Gerassimenko scored the decisive third point with an impressive performance against Benedikt Duda. With 11:7, 11:7 and 11:9, the Kazakh provided the final point and threw his arms up in jubilation. The match point at 11:9 in particular made the spectators sit up and take notice: A long topspin rally from half distance across the entire table developed into the rally of the evening and offered top-class table tennis.

With this success, Bremen gained further self-confidence for the upcoming top duels against Borussia Düsseldorf and Ochsenhausen. For Schwalbe Bergneustadt, the defeat against Mühlhausen was followed by the second setback in a short space of time. Both teams are currently on 18 points and still have a mathematical chance of making the play-offs. However, in view of the strong competition and the remaining program, the probability is extremely low.
