Werder Bremen keeps its clean record
SV Werder Bremen remains on the road to success. The North Germans won their home match against Post SV Mühlhausen in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) 3:1 and are currently second in the table.
SV Werder Bremen started strongly into the match of the second matchday. Mattias Falck had to deal with Mühlhausen's Ovidiu Ionescu in the opening match. The two players know each other well from training together, as Ionescu lives and trains in Bremen. However, the Romanian from Post SV Mühlhausen could not take advantage of this. Falck was too strong that afternoon and decided the first match in front of his own audience in the still young season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) with 3:0 (11:7, 11:6, 12:10) in his favor.
Bremen's Kirill Gerassimenko also proved to be too strong for Daniel Habesohn. The Kazakh played aggressively, at times close to the table and presented the Austrian with problems. Although Habesohn fended off two match points in the third set after trailing 0:2 and won the set 12:10 after trailing 8:10, it was all over in the fourth set. Gerassimenko used the next match point and won the match 3:1 (11:7, 11:8, 10:12, 11:6). "Daniel Habesohn tried a lot and for me that made it easier on the return, which I did aggressively," Gerassimenko said.
Mattias Falck gets decisive point
This increased the pressure on Post SV Mühlhausen, who won both encounters with SV Werder Bremen (3:0, 3:2) in the previous season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). Steffen Mengel had to win his match against Cristian Pletea to keep his team in the match. And he succeeded with flying colors. The German singles champion of 2013 was in a really good mood, gave Pletea no chance and won the match 3:0 (11:7, 11:6, 11:7).
So it came to the duel between Mattias Falck and Daniel Habesohn. Both met only a few days ago in the final of the doubles competition of the European Championships - then with the better end for Falck, who together with Kristian Karlsson won the gold medal for Sweden against the Austrians Habesohn/Gardos. And also this time the Swede kept the upper hand. After an even match in the first two sets, Habesohn turned up the heat in the third and took a 2-1 sets lead. Falck, however, did not let himself be put off, fought his way back and secured the next two sets. His 3:2 (9:11, 11:7, 4:11, 11:8, 11:7) win over the Austrian meant victory for the Bremen team, who after their 3:2 win in Bad Königshofen on the first match day were now victorious again. Mühlhausen, on the other hand, suffered its second defeat after losing 0:3 in Düsseldorf.
