Tuesday evening: Düsseldorf hosts Mainz
Top of the table meets bottom: The 17th matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) will open on Tuesday evening with the duel between Borussia Düsseldorf and 1. FSV Mainz 05.
Once again fresh hope for the class preservation in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) has created the 1st FSV Mainz 05 on yesterday's Sunday. Yuto Muramatsu led the last team to a 3:1 win against TTC Neu-Ulm and with it the third victory of the season - now the Japanese player should also be the success factor in the guest game at Borussia Düsseldorf. Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Rheinhessen team will face the record champions at 7 p.m.. Despite the victory, the starting situation has hardly changed. Since TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau also celebrated a victory on Monday, Mainz is still six points behind the team from the Westerwald region - but also only as many points behind the safety net.
"Mainz can be dangerous at any time, even for strong teams," warns Düsseldorf manager Andreas Preuß. "Mainz is certainly not an opponent you can beat in passing. In our current situation, we have to be fully focused in every game." Because Borussia also needs points: Due to two defeats already in the second half of the season, the lead over 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and second place has melted down to two points. Meanwhile, it is still unclear who will be available to the record champion: Coach Danny Heister had to do without Timo Boll and Kay Stumper most recently, and a decision on a return is to be made in the short term. "At the moment I can not yet estimate whether one of the two can play on Tuesday," says Heister. "Otherwise, we'll just have to try again with two players."
