The ink is dry and the contract has been signed. The Brazilian superstar Hugo Calderano has also extended his contract with TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and will continue to serve for the Upper Swabians in the coming season.

The current world number eight only celebrated his comeback for the TTF last year, having already played for Ochsenhausen from 2014 to 2021. His highlight at the club came in 2019, when he won the league and cup double. Like Gauzy, the 27-year-old Calderano is part of the philosophy and a figurehead of the club. With a record of 9:3 in the German table tennis league, he has played very positively and recently made a name for himself internationally with second place at the WTT Champions in India. There he defeated world-class players Felix Lebrun from France and Fan Zhendong from China, among others. The fact that his return to Ochsenhausen last year was not just a flash in the pan and did not serve exclusively as preparation for the Olympics underlines the ambitions and the special relationship between the two parties.

President Kristijan Pejinovic had the following to say about the contract extension: “We're delighted that Hugo is staying and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. I can still remember very well how we presented him in May 2014. At the time, it was still a surprising personnel matter, even though the then 17-year-old Brazilian was considered one of the biggest talents in the world. In the meantime, Hugo has developed into a world-class player. He had many offers, but it was important for us to keep him as a “second pillar” in the sporting realignment. He is very valuable to the team and was not able to reach his full potential last season due to various factors - we want to do much better in the new season. He is a special athlete, but also a special person. Both are important for a team to perform. For me, it's also very important that it fits on a personal level.”

Hugo Calderano himself wants to make up for the current season: “I'm very happy to be staying with the TTF next season and I'm really looking forward to it. Last season wasn't our best and I really hope we can achieve something big next year. I really like all the people there, the training hall is great and I love the support of our fans!”
