TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell's home debut a success
The home debut of TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell was a success. Against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, the East Hessians won 3:1, their first victory in the still young season of the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL).
However, the game started badly for Maberzell. Alexandre Cassin, who was back after his hand injury from the first match day of the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL), gave away his match against Benedikt Duda without a sound with 0:3 (4:11, 6:11, 4:11). This gave TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt a 1:0 lead. Actually, this was a good sign for the guests, who lost twice at TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell last season - once in the league and the second time in the cup, which made Bergneustadt miss the participation in the Final Four.
Benedikt Duda was naturally satisfied after his clear success: "The evening started well. I felt very good and played well against Cassin," said the 28-year-old. "Our plan was to win against Cassin and Meng. But then Meng's win was already a crunch point for us."
Fanbo Meng equalizes for Fulda-Maberzell
In the following match Bergneustadt's hopes for two away points then received the first damper. Omar Assar made too many errors in the first and also in the third set and had to admit defeat to Fanbo Meng from Fulda by a narrow margin. Meng, who is ranked over 70 places behind Assar in the world rankings, won 3:2 (11:9, 10:12, 11:9, 10:12, 12:10). "I knew it would be a tough match because I know Omar Assar from our training together in Düsseldorf," Fanbo Meng said. "It was a match of equals, we didn't give each other anything, and I am very happy to have won." The 21-year-old from Fulda played courageously in the fifth set and used his third match point for the decisive 12:10.
After the equalizer, Fulda's Quadri Aruna ensured the Fulda lead with a 3:1 (6:11, 11:9, 11:7, 11:9) over Alberto Mino. After that, the spectators in the Hubtex Arena saw a changed Alexandre Cassin. The Frenchman, who had gone down in the first match of the day, showed a much better performance against the reigning African champion Omar Assar and won 3:1 (11:6, 11:8, 7:11, 11:4). In the last set, the 23-year-old had eight match points and converted the third to win for the East Hessians.
