TTBL summit meeting: Düsseldorf wins against Ochsenhausen despite personnel problems
On Friday evening of the 16th matchday in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), it came to the summit meeting between TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and Borussia Düsseldorf. In the first leg, the Borussians already won 3:0 and also in the second leg, the Ochsenhausen trio had nothing to gain.
The first game of the match between Samuel Kulczycki and Anton Källberg went the full distance. Källberg won the first set with 11:6, before Kulczycki bit his way into the match and won sets two and three. With his back against the wall, Källberg really turned it up a notch and prevailed in each of the following two sets with 7:11.
With a 1-0 lead and plenty of wind at his back, reigning European singles champion Qiu increased the lead with a smooth 3-0 victory over Can Akkuzu (7:11, 6:11, 19:17). Only the third set was hard-fought, but Akkuzu did not manage to use one of the set points to force Dang into the fourth set.
Due to personnel worries (Kai Stumper injured and Timo Boll ill), head coach Danny Heister had to take the court for Borussia in the third game. After the first rallies against Alvaro Robles were still on eye level (5:4), Heister lost the first set 11:4 and then gave up the further sets and the match due to injury.
Not getting past Dang Qui
In the fourth and last match of the evening, Samuel Kulczycki had little to offer against Dang Qui. Dang showed his class again and won the match quite clearly with 3:0 (5:11, 7:11, 3:11). The match finally ended with a 3:1 victory for Borussia Düsseldorf.
Samuel Kulczycki, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen: "It was very hard for me today. It was my first time playing at position one. The first match was very close and I had chances, but finally lost it 2:3. In the second game against Dang, I couldn't find a good solution to score against him. He played class."
Danny Heister commented on the current situation after the match as follows: "We are weakened at the moment. Ochsenhausen was but also had three good players and we only two. I myself am not so good anymore. Anton and Dang had a lot of pressure, of course, but were able to handle it very well and win their matches. I'm glad we got a 3-1 today."
