Titles, victories, spectators: the figures for the 2023/24 TTBL season
A spectacular season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) has come to an end with the Liebherr TTBL final and Borussia Düsseldorf's championship. Before the first matchday of 2024/25, we take a look back and present some remarkable figures from the season.
4 - In a brilliant Liebherr TTBL final, Borussia Düsseldorf secured the German championship for the fourth time in a row. The record champions beat 1. FC Saarbrücken TT 3:1 in the Süwag Energie ARENA in Frankfurt to clinch their 34th title in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). For superstar Timo Boll, it was his 14th championship with Borussia.
7 - No club fielded more players than 1. FC Saarbrücken TT. The old and new runners-up fielded seven different players in singles, more than any other club: Patrick Franziska, Darko Jorgic, Yuto Muramatsu, Cedric Nuytinck, Eduard Ionescu, Cedric Meißner and Abdullah Talha Yigenler. TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, ASV Grünwettersbach, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and 1. FSV Mainz 05 each fielded six players. TSV Bad Königshofen and SV Werder Bremen had the fewest players, four each.
8 - The two finalists often made it particularly clear over the course of the season. 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and Borussia Düsseldorf each recorded eight 3:0 victories over the course of the round - including the knockout phase. It is also worth noting that FCS did not concede a single 3-0 defeat over the course of the season. TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt achieved six outright victories; 1. FSV Mainz 05 did not manage a single one.
9 - Borussia Düsseldorf, ASV Grünwettersbach and 1. FSV Mainz 05 played particularly long matches: These three teams each went into the doubles nine times. Grünwettersbach had the best record with 5:4, while Borussia achieved four victories, although they were beaten twice by 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in the doubles. Mainz still managed three wins. TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell had a particularly poor doubles record of 1:7, while TSV Bad Königshofen (5:0) and Post SV Mühlhausen (4:0) remained unbeaten.
20 - No player celebrated more individual victories than Mattias Falck (SV Werder Bremen) and Feng Yi-Hsin (TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau). The two each scored 20 individual victories and were therefore key factors in their team's success. Feng's advantage: The Taiwanese player needed 30 matches to do so, Falck one more. Bastian Steger from TSV Bad Königshofen (18:9) and Anton Källberg from Borussia Düsseldorf (16:5) achieved 18 singles victories.
827 - On average, Borussia Düsseldorf welcomed 827 fans to its home matches, making it not only the sporting champion, but also ahead in terms of attendance. Over the course of the season, the record champions had a total of 10,745 fans at their home matches. TSV Bad Königshofen came second in the attendance table with an average of 641 spectators (total: 7054), ahead of TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell (502; 5016) and SV Werder Bremen (389; 4283).
