Timo Boll announces the end of his international career
Record European champion Timo Boll will end his international table tennis career after the Olympic Games in Paris. “I've spoken often enough in the past about being a little afraid of this decision. But it was clear that this day was inevitable. Now it really is time to say goodbye to the world stage of active sport,” said the 43-year-old.
Boll will play one more season for Borussia Düsseldorf and then support the club in an advisory capacity alongside other tasks. “But I will definitely stay true to the sport that has given me so much. There are plenty of ideas. My life will certainly remain interesting and exciting,” explained Boll, who will be playing at the WTT Champions in China from Thursday.
Boll is record European champion
Boll reached the final of the German championships again with Düsseldorf at the weekend. At the Summer Games, the Hessian will compete in the team competition, his seventh participation.
With the team, Boll, who has recently been set back by long shoulder problems, won silver twice and bronze twice at the Olympics. “The day had to come at some point,” Boll shared on Instagram: “Thank you all for the support on my really long journey! Now I'm looking forward to my last adventures.”
