The promoted team does it here too: Dortmund prevails against Mühlhausen
It is a successful matchday for the promoted teams in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). After TTC OE Bad Homburg had already won against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Sunday, Borussia from Dortmund now recorded its first upper house victory against Post SV Mühlhausen with 3:1. Yongyin Li was the match winner.
The conditions were certainly not easy for the BVB visitors. They had not been allowed to host a home game since their promotion to the top flight - the team had suffered a 3:1 defeat in Bremen on the previous matchday. Now it was Mühlhausen, and Cedric Nuytinck was about to face a true Mühlhausen veteran in Steffen Mengel. The finalist for this year's German championship gave Post SV a commanding lead in the atmospheric LOTTO Thüringen Center Court. After taking a 2:0 lead with Nuytinck catching up 12:10 in the meantime, the game became tighter, but Mengel ultimately won the opening match 3:1.
Yongyin Li decides thanks to two wins
It was not yet clear that it would be Mühlhausen's last point in this match. Yongyin Li set the first course with his 3:1 victory over Daniel Habesohn, who was playing his first match of the season. With the score at 1:1, Irvin Bertrand and Anders Lind then presented the spectators with a real thriller. Bertrand took the lead - already narrowly - at 12:10 and 11:9. The fact that the match could have quickly tipped in Mühlhausen's favor was shown by Lind's 14:12 lead in the third set. Spurred on by this momentum, the BVB player did not let the game slip away, eventually winning 3:2.
With a final 3:0 win by Yongyin Li over Steffen Mengel, Borussia can now celebrate their first win of the season. For Post SV, on the other hand, it was their second defeat in their second match. Next up, the Thuringians travel to Bergneustadt, while Dortmund host ASC Grünwettersbach.
