Start on Sunday: Five reasons to look forward to the new season

The countdown is on! The new season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) is just around the corner, and next Sunday and Monday the hunt for the championship and for defending champion Borussia Düsseldorf will open. Why the anticipation is worth it? We say so!

The strongest field ever

The Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) has never been stronger! Numerous clubs have strengthened themselves for the new season and can justifiably hope for a title. In addition to champion Borussia Düsseldorf and cup winner 1. FC Saarbrücken TT, TTC Neu-Ulm in particular has positioned itself with notable reinforcements. But TSV Bad Königshofen with newcomer Yukiya Uda and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen also have their eyes on the play-offs - and then there are last year's semi-finalists TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and Post SV Mühlhausen, who are again aiming for a top place. The other teams have also strengthened and are aiming for (even) better rankings than last time. In short, it should be as exciting as never before!

The European Champions

Even if the singles final of the European Championship is still to be played, it is already clear: The new title holder comes from the TTBL - with Dang Qiu (Borussia Düsseldorf) and Darko Jorgic (1. FC Saarbrücken TT), two players from the Bundesliga will finally meet this Sunday from 4 pm. Among the quarterfinalists even seven players came from the TTBL, and with Kristian Karlsson also the eighth played until recently for Düsseldorf. The doubles title also went to a TTBL player with Mattias Falck (SV Werder Bremen, with Karlsson), other medals went to Daniel Habesohn (Post SV Mühlhausen, silver) and Anton Källberg (Borussia Düsseldorf, bronze). In the mixed Ovidiu Ionescu (Post SV Mühlhausen, silver) just missed the title.

The top stars

The best do the honors: Five players from the top 10 in the world are under contract with TTBL clubs in the new season, ten are from the top 20 in the world rankings. In particular, the TTC Neu-Ulm offers a star ensemble in the Bundesliga and has licensed Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Truls Moregard and Lin Yun-Ju not only for the Champions League but also for the TTBL. Defending champion Düsseldorf also has three players from the top 20 in Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg and Timo Boll, who is already entering his 26th TTBL season. 1. FC Saarbrücken TT continues to be led by Darko Jorgic and Patrick Franziska. TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell still relies on Quadri Aruna, while TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt brings Omar Assar back to Germany. And and!

The best streaming

More cameras, more action: starting with the new season, all TTBL matches will be broadcast on Spontent's channels on the world's largest streaming portal, Twitch. The multi-camera live stream and two commentators per match not only ensure the best table tennis entertainment, but also offer numerous insights behind the scenes. And it gets even better: The quality of the livestream will be successively improved in the coming years, and from the second half of the season the program around the TTBL will also be expanded with various editorial studio formats.

The top events

Who will be German Champion? Who will be cup winner? The focus of every season is, of course, the title decisions - and thus the top events. The Cup final will probably be held again in January as a Final Four event. For the first time since 2019, spectators will then hopefully be able to be on site in the arena and cheer along as the stars battle it out for the title. Finally, the crowning glory of the season will be the TTBL final in the summer, when the decision for the German championship will be made. Be there and experience the fascination of table tennis up close!
