Simon Gauzy leads Ochsenhausen to victory
In the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), the TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen are firmly established in the top group. On the 3rd matchday, the Upper Swabians scored a 3:1 victory at TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt and maintain their second place in the table with 6:0 points.
Compared to the home victory against TSV Bad Königshofen on the last match day, Ochsenhausen's coach Yong Fu again relied on his top player Simon Gauzy. And this personnel should pay off: The Frenchman compensated first the 0:1 arrears of his colors owing to a 3:0 (12:10, 11:9, 11:5) against Alberto Mino, before he made against the German national player Benedikt Duda likewise with 3:0 (11:9, 11:5, 11:7) the cover on the 3:1 success of the table tennis friends. For the intermediate 2:1 lead of the Ochsenhausener Alvaro Robles had provided against Romain Ruiz.
Key match Ruiz - Robles
After the match, two-point man Gauzy was particularly pleased with the hard-fought 2-1 intermediate score. Three of the four sets between Robles and Ruiz were decided in extra time: "That was the key match for us. If I had had to go to the table with the score at 1:2 against Bene, it would have been difficult. But this way I knew that we would still have had a good chance to win even at 2:2. Alvaro and Samuel play a good doubles." The 3:1 success brings Ochsenhausen a good bit closer to the desired goal of the season: "We want to get into the play-offs," said Simon Gauzy. "But other teams want that, too. It will be hard, even if we are on a good path. But the season is still long."
Chances not used
Bergneustadt's Romain Ruiz also saw his singles match against Alvaro Robles as the key moment of the afternoon. "If we take a 2-1 lead, we definitely get another chance in doubles. I had opportunities in the second and third sets but in the end didn't manage to decide the match for me. But Ochsenhausen is one of the best teams in the league. And today they were simply better than us."
The Ochsenhausen team will open the fourth day of play on Sunday, September 18 at home against Mainz 05, while TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt will host TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Monday, September 19.
