Sigh of relief in Fulda
TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell has gained some breathing room in the bottom of the table in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The guests won 3:1 at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Matchday 6.
Both the TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and the TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau had lost in the cup quarterfinals on Friday evening. For both clubs, there was not only the opportunity to distance a direct competitor in the duel of two basement children, but also to end the weekend conciliatory with a victory.
The better start was made by the guests from Fulda, who took the lead 2:0 after victories of Quadri Aruna against Maciej Kubik and Ruwen Filus against Patrick Baum. Defense strategist Filus even had to fend off a match ball in the decision set against Baum before he won the round with 12:10. And Fulda's No. 1 also proved good nerves in his second single. Against Maciej Kubik, Filus also had to go over the full distance before the 1:3 away success of his colors was determined. Yi-Hsin Feng had brought Grenzau to 1:2 in the meantime thanks to a 3:1 (4:11, 11:9, 11:7, 11:8) against Fan Bo Meng.
A quantum of luck
Fulda's match winner Ruwen Filus was relieved after the important away success: "We have finished the negative series. From a fighting point of view, it was a strong performance by the team today. But maybe we also had a bit more luck on our side in one or the other scene."
Patrick Baum was not dissatisfied with his team's appearance despite the defeat: "I think we played a good game today. Unfortunately, it was not enough in the end. I was still able to win the last two matches against Ruwen. Unfortunately not today. Congratulations to Fulda."
