Sigh of relief in Bergneustadt
TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt has gained some breathing space in the bottom of the table with a 3:1 home win against SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 10 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The match-winner against the North Germans was national player Benedikt Duda.
Last season, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt fought for the play-offs at times, but in the new season, the focus is more on the bottom. The hosts had only two wins to their credit before the 10th match day. "Not optimal", is the current situation with five defeats in a row, said Benedikt Duda. "But I know that we all have the level to be able to win many games in a row again."
Duda leads the way
And the 28-year-old directly followed these words with action against Werder Bremen. With victories against Marcelo Aguirre and the 2021 World Champion in doubles, Mattias Falck, he led his colors to victory. Roman Ruiz contributed the third point in a five-set thriller (11:7, 11:6, 8:11, 9:11, 11:8) against Kirill Gerassimenko. Mattias Falck had provided the intermediate equalizer against Omar Assar.
Thanks to the fans
"The two points today are worth gold," reflected Benedikt Duda after the match. "The league is incredibly balanced. You saw that again today. I am very happy that we won. Many thanks to the fans. They supported us great again."
Bremen coach Cristian Tamas already turned his focus back to the upcoming task after the game: "It was the expected hard-fought game today. Now we want to come home quickly, deal with the defeat and then attack again on Tuesday against Grenzau."
Christmas visit to the champion
To conclude the first half of the TTBL season, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt will play record champion Borussia Düsseldorf on Matchday 11 on Wednesday, December 21. SV Werder Bremen already receives TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on Tuesday. All matches will be broadcast live on the Spontent channels on Twitch.
