Series heroes and suspense specialists: the record players of the 2023/24 season

Who was at the table particularly often? Which team also impressed in the doubles? And who went into the fifth particularly often? The analysis of last season's records has revealed some exciting facts. We present the record players of the 2023/24 season.

Series heroes

Ricardo Walther (ASV Grünwettersbach) had already celebrated the most consecutive victories in the 2022/23 season. He repeated this feat last season with ten wins in a row. Overall, the 32-year-old had a 15-3 record. Bastian Steger (TSV Bad Königshofen) came second with nine wins in a row (total: 18:9).

Series frustration

Carlo Rossi had to contend with teething problems: The Italian from 1. FSV Mainz 05 suffered 13 defeats in a row before recording two wins against ASV Grünwettersbach in April. Rares Sipos (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Filip Zeljko (TSV Bad Königshofen) both suffered eight defeats in a row over the course of the season.

Frequent player

No player was at the table more often last season than Mattias Falck: SV Werder Bremen's top player played 31 singles matches and won 20 of them. Feng Yi-Hsin (TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, 20:10) played one match less; Bastian Steger (TSV Bad Königshofen, 18:9), Ruwen Filus (TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, 14:13) and Steffen Mengel (Post SV Mühlhausen, 13:14) shared third place in the list of frequent players.

Unbeaten

Of the 60 players involved, only one did not suffer a defeat: Abdullah Talha Yigenler (1. FC Saarbrücken TT) celebrated a 3-0 win against Wang Xi in his only match of the season. The 25-year-old mostly played in the FCS second team in the 3rd Bundesliga, where he had a 10:7 singles record.

Dominators

With Yuto Muramatsu (1. FC Saarbrücken TT), Mattias Falck (SV Werder Bremen) and Benedikt Duda (TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt), three players celebrated nine 3-0 victories each, the most of all players. Including the knockout phase, Muramatsu and Falck even achieved ten outright victories each. Ricardo Walther (ASV Grünwettersbach) had eight; Darko Jorgic (1. FC Saarbrücken TT), Anton Källberg (Borussia Düsseldorf) and Simon Gauzy (TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen) seven each.

High voltage

When Feng Yi-Hsin (TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau) came to the table, it was often particularly exciting. The 21-year-old went through to the fifth set twelve times, eight of which he won. Ruwen Filus (TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, 4:6) played ten times over the full distance, Steffen Mengel (2:7) and Ovidiu Ionescu (both Post SV Mühlhausen, 6:3) nine times each.

Top players

The top 10 most successful players according to the TTBL rankings are spread across seven clubs: 1. FC Saarbrücken TT is represented three times with Darko Jorgic (14:2), Yuto Muramatsu (14:3) and Patrick Franziska (11:2), ASV Grünwettersbach twice with Ricardo Walther (15:3) and Tiago Apolonia (15:9). Borussia Düsseldorf (Anton Källberg, 16:5), TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau (Feng Yi-Hsin, 20:10), SV Werder Bremen (Mattias Falck, 20:11), TSV Bad Königshofen (Bastian Steger, 18:9) and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (Simon Gauzy, 14:6) each have one player.

Double specialists

Borussia Düsseldorf, ASV Grünwettersbach and 1. FSV Mainz 05 each had to go into the doubles nine times. Grünwettersbach had the best record with 5:4, with four wins for Borussia and four for Mainz. TSV Bad Königshofen (5:0) and Post SV Mühlhausen (4:0) remained unbeaten in the doubles.

Versatility

No club fielded more players than 1. FC Saarbrücken TT, who had a total of seven different players in Patrick Franziska, Darko Jorgic, Yuto Muramatsu, Eduard Ionescu, Cedric Meissner, Cedric Nuytinck and Abdullah Talha Yigenler. TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and 1. FSV Mainz 05 each fielded six players over the course of the season. Borussia Düsseldorf was particularly variable in the doubles: the record champions sent six different combinations into the box for the showdown. TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau made do with just one combination.
