Saarbrücken turns home game against Mühlhausen
With a home victory, the 1st FC Saarbrücken TT goes into the World Cup break of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). The Saarlanders only prevailed against Post SV Mühlhausen 3:2 in the deciding doubles. Darko Jorgic scored two points for last season's runners-up.
Again with Darko Jorgic but without national player Patrick Franziska, the Saarlanders welcomed Post SV Mühlhausen on the 4th matchday in their home hall. And top player Jorgic fully lived up to his leading role this afternoon. Against Ovidiu Ionescu (11:6, 11:9, 11:6) as well as against Steffen Mengel (11:4, 11:4, 11:7) the European finalist from Munich did not give up a single set. However, since no other player from Saarbrücken was able to score in the singles apart from Jorgic, the doubles match had to decide the match. In a real thriller, Cedric Nuytinck / Tomas Polansky from Saarbrücken won against Ovidiu Ionescu / Kim Taehyun 3:2 (6:11, 9:11, 11:9, 11:6, 11:9) after trailing 0:2 in the first set.
Saarbrücken wins up and down
"In doubles we were down 0-2 straight away, but we fought for every ball and can be happy that we won the match here at home in the end," said a relieved Cedric Nuytinck. "Mulhouse was very hot today. But especially Darko played very stable and delivered two really good singles."
On the other hand, Mühlhausen's Kim Taehyun mourned the missed chances in the doubles: "It's very disappointing. We had our chances to win the match today. In the third set they changed tactics a bit and we had trouble adjusting. Until then we had the doubles under control. Then it was a constant up and down and in the end we unfortunately have to congratulate Saarbrücken for the win."
