Saarbrücken still unbeaten - Akkuzu completely without a chance
1. FC Saarbrücken wins the Monday evening match of matchday 7 in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). While TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen have to live with a mixed start to the season as a result of the defeat, the team from Saarland are closing the gap at the top of the table.
When the last rally was played, Darko Jorgic roared out all his relief. Shortly before, he had defeated Frenchman Simon Gauzy 11:8 in the fifth set. It was tantamount to a 3:1 overall victory for 1. FC Saarbrücken against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen at the end of the 7th matchday in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL).
Jorgic left the table victorious in his very first duel, leading his team to success with two individual wins. He kept Alvaro Robles at bay in three very close sets and gave the hosts a 1:0 lead. However, the table tennis friends from Ochsenhausen equalized immediately. Although Cedric Meissner set an exclamation mark against Gauzy with 11:5 in the first set, the German then had to acknowledge the Frenchman's superiority and accept his first defeat in the TTBL.
Saarbrücken really turn up the heat after the break
After the break, Patrick Franziska was much improved compared to the previous week, when he lost 3:0 to Ovidiu Ionescu. He did not give Can Akkuzu the slightest chance. Akkuzu only managed to win a total of twelve points in three sets during Franziska's demonstration of power.
And Jorgic also seemed to pick up where Franziska left off. He won the first set against Gauzy 11:2. However, the latter did not give up and twice made up for a set deficit. However, he was unable to overtake the Slovenian. Jorgic earned four match points in the deciding set, converted the third and then let his relief run free. With their sixth win in their sixth match, Saarbrücken have now caught up with league leaders Borussia Düsseldorf. Both teams are level on points and games at the top.
The TTBL will now take a break for more than five weeks. It will resume with the 8th matchday on November 23. ASV Grünwettersbach will then host Borussia Düsseldorf.
