Saarbrücken remains on top

With a 3-0 away win at TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, 1st FC Saarbrücken TT moved up to third place in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) on Matchday 3. In the absence of Darko Jorgic, Cedric Nuytinck, Patrick Franziska and Takuya Jin provided the points for the Saarlanders.

Only the opening singles between Alexandre Cassin and Cedric Nuytinck were on a par with the hosts. After that, Patrick Franziska and newcomer Takuya Jin, in his first TTBL appearance for Saarbrücken, left no doubt about the sovereign away victory of the reigning cup winners. In singles two and three, the Saarlanders only conceded a single set.

Can opener Alexandre Cassin

"We are of course mega happy with the away win," said Saarbrücken international Patrick Franziska. "Fulda is a very, very strong team and definitely a play-off contender as well. I think Cedric's game at the beginning was a bit of a can opener for us. Of course, that made it a little easier for Jin and me afterwards."

Fulda's coach Qing Yu Meng also recognized something like the early decision in favor of the guests in the first singles match. "Of course, 0:3 sounds clear at first, but it was very, very close especially in the first singles. If Alexandre wins his match and we lead 1:0, things might go differently. But we'll stay tuned and try to do better next week. Congratulations to Saarbrücken."

On Sunday, September 18, the Saarbrücken team will host Post SV Mühlhausen to kick off the fourth match day in the German Table Tennis League. On Monday, September 19, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell travels to SV Werder Bremen in the far north.
