Saarbrücken loses marathon match
The duel between the two play-off candidates was hotly contested. In the end, 1. FC Saarbrücken lost 1:3 to Post SV Mühlhausen at the end of the 14th match day in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL).
All four singles were decided in the fifth set. Only nine of the 20 sets played were won by more than two points. It was the most contested match on the 14th matchday in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). In the end, Post SV Mühlhausen rejoiced over two important points in the fight for the play-off places. 1. FC Saarbrücken, on the other hand, slipped to third place in the table as a result of the defeat.
Matchwinner of the close match was Daniel Habesohn. Twice he turned a set deficit into a win. Against Tomas Polansky he was even trailing 0:2 in the first single before he could turn the match around. Against Darko Jorgic he was trailing 1:2, which he recovered and turned into a win with 11:9 and 12:10. This was tantamount to the 3:1 overall victory.
Darko Jorgic equalizes with victory over Ovidiu Ionescu
Between Habesohn's two wins were the singles of Ovidiu Ionescu against Darko Jorgic and Steffen Mengel against Cedric Nuytinck. Ionescu lost to Jorgic, while Mengel prevailed against Nuytinck. Jorgic made up for Polansky's opening defeat with his success over Ionescu. However, it did not take a turn. Although Nuytinck came back from a 0:2 set deficit against Mengel, he could not turn the match around.
Mühlhausen's team captain Daniel Habesohn was correspondingly satisfied after the match. "Saarbrücken is of course an absolute top team. It was all incredibly close games today, especially games at a very, very high level." The win was especially important with an eye on the race for the play-off places. "To be able to take these two points today is of course really good. Especially because the standings are so incredibly tight. In the end, almost any team can make the playoffs. The two points were very important for us," said the Austrian.
All six matches of Matchday 14 took place this Sunday. Matchday 15 begins next Friday with TSV Bad Königshofen playing away at SV Werder Bremen.
