Saarbrücken leaves no stone unturned against Mainz
The big goal of the first victory in the second half of the season remains elusive for the TTBL promoted team 1 FSV Mainz 05. On the 15th match day, the athletes around Andrei Putuntica lost to the home team of 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT. For the again it is the redemption for the 1:3 defeat against Mühlhausen from last week.
The defeat in the Mühlhausen game and the associated drop to 3rd place in the table tennis Bundesliga hurt the Saarbrücken team, but against Mainz the team of Patrick Franziska, Tomas Polansky and Cedric Nuytinck once again underlined their playoff ambitions. After just over an hour, the 3-0 win was already in the books.
Patrick Franziska back at the TTBL table
The match against Mainz was the first match of the second half of the season for Patrick Franziska, a veteran of Saarbrücken, who had not played in the three previous matches. This did not detract from his performance. In the opening match, Franziska won 3:0 against his Mainz challenger Andrei Putuntica.
Tomas Polansky also followed Franziska's example in the second game of the match against Luka Mladenovic. He defeated Luka Mladenovic also with 3:0. Only in the last game Carlo Rossi could win the second set against Cedric Nuytinck with 11:9, but finally he also had to admit defeat with 1:3. After the 3:0 defeat, Mainz remains winless in 2023 for the time being.
Comments on the game
Luka Mladenovic, 1. FSV Mainz 05: "It's a shame. I've played better in the last few weeks since the second half of the season. Although I haven't won a game yet, I'm better in terms of feeling. Today, however, I simply had a lack of clarity from the head. Even when I'm in top form, I knew this would be a brutally difficult game."
