SAARBRÜCKEN, BREMEN AND GRÜNWETTERSBACH ADVANCE TO THE CUP QUARTER-FINALS
With 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT, SV Werder Bremen and ASV Grünwettersbach, the last three teams have secured their tickets for the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup. Saarbrücken won 3-0 against TTC OE Bad Homburg 1987 on Friday, Bremen won 3-0 against TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and ASV Grünwettersbach progressed with a 3-0 win in Hilpolstein.
The field of participants in the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup is thus complete. TSV Bad Königshofen, Post SV Mühlhausen, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau had already made it through to the last eight. Last year's finalists Borussia Düsseldorf have also qualified for the quarter-finals.
Homburg - Saarbrücken
Csaba Andras started the match against Patrick Franziska. Csaba Andras was able to annoy the favorite from Saarbrücken a little by winning a set, but it was not enough for more and Franziska won 3:1 (11:9, 11:4, 7:11, 11:6). This was followed by a commanding 3:0 performance (11:7, 11:7, 11:8) by Yuto Muramatsu against Yuma Tsuboi and the hosts from Homburg were also unable to put up enough resistance in the third game. Cedric Nuytinck won the third point against Benno Oehme and took Saarbrücken into the quarter-finals.
Bremen - Fulda
Newcomer Thibault Poret, who had been out injured so far this season, played for Fulda for the first time in this match. The visitors were unable to call on Wong Chun Ting as he was playing for Hong Kong at the Asian Games. The first match was therefore Falck vs. Poret, which went to the Swede by a clear 3:0 (11:7, 11:5, 11:7). The other two matches went the full distance of five sets and Bremen was the lucky winner in both. Gerassimenko won against Meng 3:2 (6:11, 12:10, 11:7, 6:11, 11:7) and Aguirre took the 3:2 victory (7:11, 11:3, 11:4, 5:11, 14:12) in the match against Filus. In the end, it was a clearer result than the course of the match actually indicated.
Hilpoltstein - Grünwettersbach
In the last match of the round of 16, ASV Grünwettersbach went to Hilpolstein. Spurred on by the good home crowd, Flemming got off to a good start in the first game against Kozul, but Kozul was able to turn around a 1:2 deficit and win the opening game 3:2 (11:9, 7:11, 11:8, 9:11, 6:11). Matthias Danzer also put in a strong performance against Tiago Apolonia, but was defeated 1:3 by the TTBL player (6:11, 9:11, 12:10, 9:11). In the end, Ricardo Walther left nothing to chance against Juan Perez and won confidently 3:0 (11:5, 11:6, 11:4).
This means that all eight teams that have made it to the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup have been determined. The quarter-final matches will be drawn on Wednesday.
