Promoted Mainz narrowly misses second win of the season

Promoted Mainz narrowly misses second win of the season

Japan's Yuto Muramatsu put up a strong fight. He won both singles matches in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) against TTC Neu-Ulm and kept 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the match. In the end, Andrei Putuntica and Luka Mladenovic lost in the doubles and thus missed the second win of the season for the promoted team.

4th-placed TTC Neu-Ulm took the lead twice, while Yuto Muramatsu twice equalized for his team. He was already leading 2:0 against Lev Katsman, but the Russian could read the cut of the Japanese defender better and better and fought his way into the 5th set. Here Muramatsu immediately gained a decisive 5:1 lead. In the end, he won the duel safely with 11:5.

Vladimir Sidorenko, on the other hand, had no chance against Muramatsu. In the first set, the Russian gave away a 7:3 lead. Muramatsu won the set with 12:10 and won the 2nd and 3rd set with 11:6 and 11:3.

Neu-Ulm wins contested doubles match

With that, the Japanese player brought the Mainzers back into the match twice, because Neu-Ulm had taken the lead before. First Sidorenko won 3:0 against Andrei Putuntica and brought the 1:0 lead, then it was Maksim Grebnev who brought the lead back with an equally safe 3:0 win over Luka Mladenovic.

Thus, the doubles had to bring the decision. In a hard-fought match, Neu-Ulm and Mainz seemed to be on the winning track. Lev Katsman and Maksim Grebnev won the first set 11:4, but Luka Mladenovic and Andrei Putuntica equalized and took the lead. However, the Russians managed the final turnaround for Neu-Ulm, who thus celebrated their sixth win of the season.
