After a narrow defeat in the golden match of the round of 16 of the Champions League against the Polish club KS Dekorglass Działdowo, the German Postsportverein Mühlhausen 1951 eV struck back with a victory in the first leg of the round of 16 of the men's European Cup. In France, Lille Métropole TT lost 3-1 to the German team.
Irvin Bertrand secured a victory over Fabio Rakotoarimanana, who later suffered another defeat against Ovidiu Iionescu. The Romanian Ionescu had previously been defeated by Romain Brard in the second match of the day. Daniel Habesohn completed the victory for Mühlhausen with a win over Amir Hossein Hodael.
“After beating Champions League winners Saarbrücken in the Bundesliga just two days ago, we're delighted to have won the first leg against Lille. There were some ups and downs during the game, but fortunately we were able to secure the win. Despite today's win, we still have to focus on our upcoming league games,” said Habesohn.
Ionescu added: “We are very happy about this victory. It was a tough game. We also won in the German league two days ago, which gave us a lot of confidence for today. Our opponents played well and we still have a second leg to play. We want to win it and qualify for the next round.”
