Cup Grand Opening: New format brings all the stars to Nuremberg
The new cup season officially kicks off at the end of August with the Cup Grand Opening – and in a completely new format. On 29 and 30 August, the Kia Metropol Arena in Nuremberg will become the centre of top-flight German table tennis: All 16 teams will compete under one roof over a single weekend for a place in the Liebherr Cup Final4 2027 in Ulm.
Taking part are all the teams from the TTBL, as well as the four teams that qualified from the Cup preliminary round, which was previously contested between the clubs of the 2nd Bundesliga and the best teams of the 3rd Bundesliga. Fans can therefore look forward to seeing the entire elite of German table tennis – all the teams, all the stars, in a single weekend.
Saturday is all about the round of 16: across four tables simultaneously, spectators will experience non-stop top-level table tennis in two sessions. Thrilling knockout matches, emotional rallies and plenty of excitement will create a real event atmosphere from the first match to the last.
The quarter-finals follow on Sunday. Once again, in two sessions, the remaining teams will battle it out on two tables for the final tickets to the Liebherr Cup Final4. Numerous top stars from the TTBL will be in action live in Nuremberg and will do everything in their power to take the first crucial step towards the title.
The new format makes the Cup Grand Opening a unique experience for fans: short distances, maximum excitement and a rare opportunity to see all the teams and all the stars in one place. Two days packed with top-class sport, excitement and a great table tennis atmosphere await spectators in Nuremberg.
If you’d like to be there in person on August 29 and 30 in Nuremberg, you can secure your ticket now.
