OCHSENHAUSEN AND GRENZAU ADVANCE TO THE CUP QUARTERFINALS
TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau are two more teams to have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup. Ochsenhausen won 3:0 against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Wednesday, while Grenzau prevailed 3:1 at TTC indeland Jülich.
Only one match now separates TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau from participating in the Final Four. The field of participants in the quarter-finals of the German Table Tennis Cup is thus almost complete. TSV Bad Königshofen had already made it through to the last eight by beating TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt 3:2 and Post SV Mühlhausen 3:0 at SU Neckarsulm. Last year's finalists Borussia Düsseldorf have also qualified for the quarter-finals.
Ochsenhausen proved right from the start that they were determined to reach the next round against 1. FSV Mainz 05. Simon Gauzy won 3:0 (11:5, 11:4, 15:13) against Li Yongyin, Hugo Calderano 3:0 (11:8, 11:1, 11:6) against Luka Mladenovic and thus took revenge for the 1:3 defeat in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) three weeks earlier. "We were very strong today and showed that we want to fight for more this season," said Calderano. "This time I was better prepared for Luka and moved better." Mladenovic explained: "Hugo wanted his revenge. I missed a few potential points in the first set, and my returns weren't as precise as last time either." Alvaro Robles finally scored the decisive point for the 3:0 win with a 3:2 (12:14, 11:6, 7:11, 11:7, 11:4) against Carlo Rossi.
Feng Yi-Hsin becomes a key player for Grenzau
Grenzau found the going a little tougher, but were once again able to rely on Feng Yi-Hsin at second division side TTC indeland Jülich. The 20-year-old first won 3:0 (12:10, 11:9, 11:6) against Snehit Suravajjula and then the top singles match 3:1 (11:8, 9:11, 11:2, 11:6) against Robin Devos. Between the two Feng performances, Samuel Walker was also successful for the visitors with a 3:1 (11:7, 11:9, 8:11, 11:7) win against Laurens Devos. The opening singles match, however, went to Jülich: Robin Devos was unimpressed by Maciej Kubik's comeback and prevailed 3:2 (11:7, 11:6, 7:11, 5:11, 11:7).
The other three quarter-final participants will be determined in the coming days. On Friday, September 29, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT will play second-division side TTC OE Bad Homburg at 7 pm. The other two matches will be between SV Werder Bremen and TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell (October 1) and between TV 1879 Hilpoltstein and ASV Grünwettersbach (October 2).
