Number games: More interesting facts about the past TTBL season
Between the past season and the upcoming season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the evaluation of the individual balances has brought interesting results and sometimes also insights to light. Our number games on the past year beyond the sober values can hopefully make the waiting time until the start of the season a little more entertaining.
Winning Streaks
The longest winning streaks were celebrated by national team players Ricardo Walther (ASV Grünwettersbach) and Anton Källberg (Borussia Düsseldorf). Walther celebrated 15 consecutive victories during the season, Källberg won twelve games in a row.
Frustration
Fan Bo Meng (TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell) and Deni Kozul (ASV Grünwettersbach) suffered the longest negative series in the past season. Both had to congratulate their opponents eleven times in a row. With 0:10, a snapshot of Martin Allegro (TSV Bad Königshofen) was not particularly pleasing either.
Most matches played
Mattias Falck (Werder Bremen) earned the most hard-working card last season. The former World Championship runner-up played no fewer than 36 individual matches (28:8 victories). National player Benedikt Duda (TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt) played 32 singles matches (21:11), and former European Championship bronze medalist Bastian Steger (Bad Königshofen) played 29 matches (17:12).
Unbeaten
Of the regular players with at least ten season appearances, no one remained unbeaten. Of the "occasional players", only Khanak Jha (TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen/5:0) and Truls Möregardh (5:0) as well as national player Dimitrij Ovtcharov (both TTC Neu-Ulm/2:0) did not suffer any defeats.
Dominators
Mattias Falck celebrated the most 3-0 victories. In his 28 victories this season, the Swede remained without losing a set 13 times. Falck's compatriot Anton Källberg (eleven 3-0 victories) and Japan's Yuto Muramatsu (1. FSV Mainz 05/ten 3-0 victories) were also often very impressive.
Chanceless
Luka Mladenovic and Andrej Putuntica from Mainz suffered the most 3-0 defeats. Both went out without winning a set eight times.
Thrilling
Kirill Gerassimenko (Werder Bremen) turned out to be a high-voltage specialist. The Kazakh played ten matches over the full distance and thus the most five-set matches of all 70 TTBL players. Gerassimenko had the upper hand four times.
Strong nerves
The most five-set victories went to Steffen Mengel (Post SV Mühlhausen). The former national player won seven of his nine matches over the full distance with 3:2.
Weak nerves (?)
Patrick Baum (TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau) and Lev Katsman (Neu-Ulm) had little luck in five-set matches. In eight games over the maximum duration, both had to admit defeat seven times with 2:3.
Top players
The top 10 most successful players in the past season were distributed among eight clubs. The old and new champion Borussia Düsseldorf is represented in the elite circle with three aces. Only four clubs - Ochsenhausen, Bad Königshofen, Neu-Ulm and Fulda-Maberzell - have no player in the top ten.
Doubles specialists
In tight matches, 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT was able to rely on his double. The team won all five deciding games in his five matches over five matches.
Thriller fans
Bremen and Bad Königshofen proved to be downright "thriller fans". Both clubs had to go the full distance including doubles nine times and thus in more than a third of all matches.
Versatility
Bad Königshofen and Grünwettersbach mixed up their lineups the most for the decisive doubles. Both teams sent no less than five different combinations into the box for the showdown.
Exceptions
Neu-Ulm and Düsseldorf were least often called upon to play "marathon matches". Neu-Ulm only had to play three doubles and Düsseldorf also only four.
