Neu-Ulm solves the ticket for Neu-Ulm
TTC Neu-Ulm is in the Liebherr Cup final. In the quarterfinals, the Neu-Ulm team beat Post SV Mühlhausen 3:1 in their own hall. The Liebherr Cup final will take place on January 8, 2023 in the Ratiopharm Arena in Neu-Ulm. Borussia Düsseldorf, defending champions 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen had already qualified beforehand.
The hosts relied on their first guard in the cup: both Yun-ju Lin and Truls Moregardh as well as Dimitrij Ovtcharov were in the lineup. The guests countered with Steffen Mengel, Ovidiu Ionescu/Kim Taehyun and Daniel Habesohn.
Mengel surprises
In the first singles match, Steffen Mengel was the surprise of the day: The German singles champion from 2013 defeated the world number 8, Yun-ju Lin, 3:2 in a thrilling match and put the outsider 1:0 in the lead. But Truls Moregardh quickly put a damper on the belief in the surprise with his 3:0 (11:8, 11:7, 11:3) against Ovidiu Ionescu. After Dimitrij Ovtcharov defeated Daniel Habesohn in five long sets, the match finally tipped in favor of the home side. In the duel of the two ones, Yun-ju Lin then wrapped up the victory for the favorites after Ovidiu Ionescu's substitution against Kim Taehyun.
Liebherr Cup Final in Neu-Ulm
In the Liebherr Cup final, TTC Neu-Ulm will face TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen on January 8, 2023. In the second semifinal, Borussia Düsseldorf and defending champion 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT will face each other.
