Neu-Ulm halts negative run
On the 17th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), TTC Neu-Ulm scored important points in the fight to stay in the league. In their own hall, the Swabians defeated TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt 3:1.
The situation in the bottom of the table is slowly becoming threatening for TTC Neu-Ulm: The TTC won only one of the last eight matches and consequently dropped from third to seventh place. Further unrest was caused during the week by the suspension of Truls Moregardh, who had violated the TTBL's licensing conditions. But the "TTBL suit" of the TTC Neu-Ulm was not impressed by this in the trend-setting match against the TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, which is also fighting against relegation.
From the hosts' point of view, the start was anything but promising. National player Benedikt Duda gave Bergneustadt a 1-0 lead thanks to a 3-1 win over Vladimir Sidorenko, but then had to watch helplessly as Neu-Ulm got better and better into the match and ultimately only conceded a single set on the way to a 3-1 overall victory.
Voices on the match
Lev Katsman, TTC Neu-Ulm: "It was a good match for us. I am also very satisfied with my game. I moved well and also did some things right tactically. It can go on like this."
Benedikt Duda, TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt: "After our 1:0 lead Neu-Ulm simply shaved us. Unfortunately, you have to say that. Somehow we lacked the tension. That must not happen to us like that."
