Neu-Ulm back on track to success
After five defeats in a row, TTC Neu-Ulm celebrates its seventh win of the season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). Lev Katsman was especially happy about his only second singles win this season. TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, on the other hand, missed some chances.
In the end, the match was not as clear-cut as the 3:0 result would suggest. Two of the three singles went the full distance of five sets and Fan Bo Meng also only had to admit defeat in the fourth round.
At the beginning, Maksim Grebnev prevailed against Alexandre Cassin. The Frenchman was able to equalize the Russian's set lead twice, but Grebnev won the fifth set 11:8.
Lev Katsmann with second win of the season against Chun Ting Wong
Lev Katsman celebrated the break afterwards. The Russian has not yet been able to get going this season and has only won one singles match so far. Now he faced Fulda's highly touted newcomer Chun Ting Wong. But the Neu-Ulm player won the very first set. Although Wong could equalize the set, Katsman took the lead again. He narrowly lost the fourth set in extra time with 11:13, but won the fifth just as narrowly with 12:10.
The final point was set by Vladimir Sidorenko with the clearest game of the day. Fang Bo Meng was able to come back from a 0:2 set deficit, but he was unable to prevent the defeat. With the 3-0 win, Neu-Ulm remains within touching distance of the play-off places. They are four points behind fourth-placed Post SV Mühlhausen. Fulda, on the other hand, must continue to look down. They are only two points away from a relegation spot.
All six games of the 14th matchday took place this Sunday. The 15th matchday starts next Friday with TSV Bad Königshofen playing away at SV Werder Bremen.
