Mühlhausen still on play-off course
On the 17th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), Post SV Mühlhausen celebrates a 3:0 home win against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau. The hosts thus remain in fourth place in the table, which entitles them to participate in the play-offs.
The guests traveled to Mühlhausen with the wind at their back from three recent victories in a row. For TTC manager Markus Ströher, however, there is no reason to doubt the existing balance of power: "On paper, it is clear who is the favorite here. But the first leg also showed that we might be able to sniff a surprise. We're going to Mühlhausen to be an unpleasant opponent again." However, the guests only succeeded in this to a limited extent. Although the Grenzauer had their opportunities in all matches, they were ultimately unable to win any of the singles.
Yi-Hsin Feng was the closest to a win in the second singles match of the day, but in the end had to congratulate Ovidiu Ionescu after five sets. Earlier, Daniel Habesohn had put Mühlhausen ahead in four sets against Maciej Kubik. Irvin Bertrand then set the final point for the 3:0 home win against Patrick Baum.
Comments on the match
Daniel Habesohn, Post SV Mühlhausen: "They were all close games today. In the decisive moments, we were perhaps the decisive tick better than Grenzau. From my point of view, the victory of Ovidiu Ionecsu against Yi-Hsin Feng was decisive. After that, of course, Grenzau had its back to the wall."
Slobodan Grujic, coach TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau: "Overall, Mühlhausen deserved to win. They were a touch better than us in every single, although we could have won more sets. Maybe the match will be a bit different if we use our opportunities better. But overall, as I said before, it was a deserved win by Mulhouse."
