Mühlhausen scores away victory in Neu-Ulm
Post SV Mühlhausen secured the away win against TTC Neu-Ulm on the 10th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL).
After Vladimir Sidorenko gave Neu-Ulm the lead with a commanding 3:0 victory (11:6, 11:6, 11:8) against Daniel Habesohn, Lev Katsman had to admit defeat in the second match of the evening. The first set went 11:5 to Katsman, but Steffen Mengel was able to win the following sets and therefore ensured the equalization. The course of the match was repeated in the following match: Ovidiu Ionescu also had to admit defeat in the first set, but won the duel against Maksim Grebnev 1:3 (11:8, 9:11, 5:11, 9:11) just like his teammate. In the decisive fourth match Sidorenko and Mengel faced each other. After trailing 0:2, the 20-year-old secured the third set and kept the chances of Neu-Ulm's victory alive. In the fourth set Sidorenko led 7:5 but Steffen Mengel was mentally strong and turned the match in favor of Post SV Mühlhausen.
Lev Katsman is self-critical in the player interview: "I have many good games this season. I fight but in the end I lose. That is the problem. It's a pity because everyone played well. Everyone fought but it wasn't enough today." Post Mühlhausen's Ionescu, on the other hand, is satisfied with his performance, "Grebnev was better in the first set. After that I made some changes which made him a bit more passive."
