More than 500,000 followers: TTBL social media channels grow rapidly
The Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) reached a historic milestone in the past season: with its social media channels, the TTBL has reached a total of more than half a million followers. The TikTok presence in particular continues to grow rapidly.
More than 367,000 people already follow the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) on TikTok, making the channel on the video portal the TTBL's widest-reach channel within a very short time. The TTBL had only launched on TikTok in November 2022, since when @ttbl has developed into one of the biggest table tennis channels in the world. In season 2022/23, TTBL clips on TikTok reached a total of 325 million people worldwide and generated around 12 million interactions.
"The success of our TikTok strategy not only shows that the sport of table tennis is highly attractive to a young audience, but also that our sport generates emotionally powerful images that are excellently suited for audiovisual media," says Nico Stehle, Managing Director of Tischtennis Bundesliga GmbH, about this development. "We are constantly developing our content and will dovetail the various channels even better in the future as part of our holistic strategy to offer users the best possible table tennis experience."
850,000 hours of TTBL views: strong development on YouTube
In addition to the vertical take-off on TikTok, the other social media channels have also experienced considerable growth. On YouTube, the TTBL now reaches more than 120,000 followers and thus around 100,000 more than a year ago. On YouTube, the TTBL publishes highlight summaries of the matches as well as numerous shorts with particularly exceptional shots and various entertainment formats. In total, almost 150 million views were achieved last season and 850,000 hours streamed.
The number of followers on Instagram and Facebook has roughly doubled. With almost 25,000 fans, the TTBL is one of the widest-reaching German-language table tennis channels on Instagram. Last season, more than 10 million people were reached, about 20 times more than in the previous season. On Facebook, the TTBL is currently followed by around 31,000 people, which is around 17,000 more than a year ago, with a reach of just under 8 million people in 2022/23.
The TTBL is hoping for a further push in terms of reach and the quality of the broadcasts from the new season with Dyn Media GmbH: from now on, all matches of the Bundesliga and the main round of the German Table Tennis Cup will be broadcast live and exclusively on Dyn. The new TTBL season will start with the 1st matchday from 25 to 28 August 2023.
