MATCHDAY 5: NEIGHBORHOOD DUEL IN MAINZ, DÜSSELDORF WELCOMES BERGNEUSTADT

MATCHDAY 5: NEIGHBORHOOD DUEL IN MAINZ, DÜSSELDORF WELCOMES BERGNEUSTADT

After a brilliant week in the cup, the 5th matchday in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) starts on Friday. This will show whether Saarbrücken and Düsseldorf can extend their lead at the top of the table or whether pressure will come from below. TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen will host ASV Grünwettersbach, Mainz will face Grenzau and Bad Königshofen will play in Fulda.

TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen - ASV Grünwettersbach

In the match between Ochsenhausen and Grünwettersbach, both teams start with a tailwind. Ochsenhausen won their last match 3:0 against Werder Bremen and were recently victorious in the cup round of 16 with a 3:0 win against Mainz. ASV clearly prevailed against Post SV from Mühlhausen. Simon Gauzy in particular came out on top for Ochsenhausen with a 3:2 comeback after trailing 2:0. Grünwettersbach also had direct experience of long matches. Both Tiago Apolonia and Ricardo Walther were forced into the fifth set and were both able to win their matches. The clash between the two teams should therefore promise excitement.

Borussia Düsseldorf - TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt

Borussia coach Danny Heister caused quite a surprise with his decision to play Kay Stumper in the first position in the match against Bad Königshofen. "Of course, that gives me extra motivation and confidence," he commented on his coach's decision. He did not disappoint expectations, Stumper won 3:0 against Martin Allegro. However, Borussia's opponents this week still have to recover from their 3-2 defeat on Sunday against Mainz, who were bottom of the table at the time. Bergneustadt had to do without Romain Ruiz due to illness. The game between Düsseldorf and Bergneustadt starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

1.FC Saarbrücken-TT - Post SV Mühlhausen

1.FC Saarbrücken-TT is currently on a winning streak. With victories in the four games so far behind them, the team welcomes Post SV Mühlhausen on Sunday. Before that, the team has to play last year's second division champions and former TTBL rivals Bad Homburg in the cup round of 16 on Friday. Mühlhausen, on the other hand, will go into the game with the experience of the 3-0 defeat against Grünwettersbach. We have to make sure that we pick up the points again in the next few weeks," explained Steffen Mengel after the defeat. He has the chance to do so this week.

1.FSV Mainz 05 - TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau

1.FSV Mainz 05 celebrated its first win of the season on the last matchday, which saw Luka Mladenovic's team climb to the penultimate place in the league. The special feature of the close match against Bergneustadt: Yongyin Li and Carlo Rossi were the first Mainz doubles team to be successful in the TTBL. In fact, the match is central to the situation in the bottom half of the table. The team from TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau resides right next to Mainz in ninth place. After a clear 3:0 start to the season against Bad Königshofen, the team from Grenzau recently suffered three defeats against Düsseldorf, Bergneustadt and Saarbrücken. Unlike recently in the cup round of sixteen, when TTC Zugbrücke won 3:0 against Jülich. Mainz also had to come to terms with a 3-0 defeat against Ochsenhausen in the cup. The two teams will now meet in Mainz on Monday at 7 pm.

TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell - TSV Bad Königshofen

With the victory in Mainz, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell has slipped to last place in the league, one game behind. The team will therefore be looking to pick up as many points as possible when it hosts TSV Bad Königshofen next Wednesday. Bad Königshofen are currently in eighth place in the league and have also suffered two defeats recently. The clash between the two teams is therefore eagerly awaited.

As always, the games in the table tennis Bundesliga will be broadcast live on Dyn on match day 5.
