Mainz loses again in doubles

Mainz loses again in doubles

1.FSV Mainz 05 is still waiting for its second win of the season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). For the third time in a row, they lost in doubles. ASV Grünwettersbach, on the other hand, remains in contact with the play-off places after Matchday 9.

Once again, it was Japan's Yuto Muramatsu who kept 1st FSV Mainz in the match with two wins in the singles. And once again, the third point t was the third point win that was needed for the overall success.

Deni Kozul and Aljaz Godez had little to offer the Japanese player Muramatsu. Although Kozul was able to clearly equalize a first advance of the Mainz defender with 11:3, he could no longer pose a threat to the Mainz player in the following two sets. And also substitute Aljaz Godez, who was substituted for the injured Xi Wang and normally goes hunting for points in the regional league, had no chance against Muramatsu. In three sets, he was left with just eight points.

Luka Mladenovic and Andrei Putuntica lose for the third time

Between the two wins by Yuto Muramatsu, the guests from Grünwettersbach took the lead. Xi Wang fought his way to a 3:2 victory in the duel of the defensive players against Luka Mladenovic, Ricardo Walther remained without a set loss against Andrei Putuntica.

So again the doubles had to bring the decision. Already against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau and TTC Neu-Ulm, the promoted team had to admit defeat in the doubles. Against ASV Grünwettersbach, the first home win in the table tennis Bundesliga was finally to follow. Luka Mladenovic and Andrei Putuntica took a 2-1 lead. But Ricardo Walther and Deni Kozul played their way back and finally won the doubles and thus the match with 11:5.

Grünwettersbach with injury problems

Martin Werner, manager of ASV Grünwettersbach, lamented above all the ever-increasing personnel worries. Tiago Apolonia did not even make the trip to Mainz due to injury. Wang Xi and Ricardo Walther went into the game stricken. "By the skin of our teeth and with a lot of luck, we still managed to win the game today. That's why I'm all the happier that we're taking the two points home with us," Werner said with relief.

On the other hand, Mainz coach Tomasz Kasica was not entirely dissatisfied. "We can't blame ourselves much. We lack a bit of experience. We have to keep going and we already have the next opportunity on Saturday."

In the afternoon, the top match of Matchday 9 between Borussia Düsseldorf and 1. FC Saarbrücken is still on. The matchday 10 continues as early as next weekend. Mainz will travel to TSV Bad Königshofen on Saturday, while Grünwettersbach will host TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell on Friday.
