Mainz gets first win of the season at home against Bergneustadt

In the Sunday match of the fourth matchday in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the 1st FSV Mainz 05 managed to get its first win of the season against the visitors from Bergneustadt, who were short of players.

Due to an illness of Romain Ruiz, the TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt went to Mainz with a weakened team. Markus Grothe was to play his first match on Sunday and had to play Luka Mladenovic in the first game. After two sets without a chance, he played better in the third set and managed to win it with 9:11. All in all, he could not get past Luka Mladenovic, who celebrated his second singles success this season.

Duda strong as an ox without losing a set

Before the second singles match, it was expected that the match would be closer than in the opening match, but this was not the case. Benedikt Duda let his opponent score just five points in three sets and won the match 11:2, 11:2 and 11:1. He also won his second singles match against Luka Mladenovic 3:0 (11:7, 11:1, 11:3).

Li as match winner in Mainz's first win of the season

In the duel of the two 3s, Yongyin Li won his first TTBL match for the 1st FSV Mainz 05, defeating Adrien Rassenfosse in a close match to score a very important point for the hosts. It was clear that Bergneustadt would have to play the final doubles match, in which Li/Rossi were the favorites. And so it came to pass: Li/Rossi won the all-important doubles against Rassenfosse/Grothe and bagged the first win of the season for 1. FSV Mainz 05, who thus leave TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell as the only club without a win in the table so far.

Voices on the match:

Luka Mladenovic (1. FSV Mainz 05): "I'm happy that I could win my first match 3:0, that was important for us to start the match with a win. Li was then able to win the key match at position three and then, after a few defeats last season, it finally came to the first doubles win for us in the TTBL."

Markus Grothe (TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt): "I was happy to play against Mladenovic, because I like to play against material. Of course, he is a few leagues above me, nevertheless, I could have won the third set where I was leading 9:8. Congratulations to Mainz, they deserved to win today."
