National table tennis player Kay Stumper is looking for a new challenge and is moving within the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). As Borussia Düsseldorf announced on Tuesday, the 22-year-old is leaving the German champions for the new season and moving to Post SV Mühlhausen. His contract expires anyway.
Stumper has played for table tennis icon Timo Boll's team since 2022 - but the Odenwald native will end his career after the 2024/25 season.
“I've experienced a lot of great moments that I wouldn't have been able to experience anywhere else,” said Stumper. These include two German championships and two cup triumphs. However, the Champions League title eluded him despite two appearances in the final (2023, 2024).
“I'm switching because I'm looking for a new challenge and would also like to take on more responsibility,” said Stumper. So far, the former European junior champion has played a total of 49 matches for Düsseldorf, winning 28 singles matches and two doubles matches. He will face his new club in the current season on January 13 - Düsseldorf won the first leg 3:0 in November, although Stumper did not play.
Borussia has to play TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Wednesday. Düsseldorf is currently in second place in the Bundesliga table, level on points with leaders TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell.
