Hard work for ASV Grünwettersbach
ASV Grünwettersbach has landed its first victory in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The Black Forest team won the home match against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau 3:2.
It was a hard piece of work for ASV Grünwettersbach before the victory was wrapped up. In the first game it looked really good. Xi Wang had to deal with Maciej Kubik, who had beaten Patrick Franziska somewhat surprisingly on the first match day of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). This time, however, the number two of TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau was not in such a good mood and lost clearly. Xi Wang, who later could not continue playing due to an injury, won 3:0 (11:8, 11:8, 11:7).
The Grenzauer, who had lost both matches against Grünwettersbach last season (1:3, 0:3), equalized in the person of Yi-Hsin Feng. The Taiwanese player won clearly 3:0 (11:7, 11:8, 11:8) against Ricardo Walther, who had played a great match against Dima Ovtcharov on the first match day. Walther, however, did not get into the match against Feng right from the start. The player from Grünwettersbach had problems with Feng's serve, couldn't find any rhythm and made many simple mistakes. After the later victory in the doubles, Walther was relieved: "Grenzau was the expected difficult opponent. We are happy that we won."
Doubles decides in favor of ASV Grünwettersbach
Tiago Apolonia celebrated a successful premiere in front of his home crowd with a 3:1 (10:12, 11:8, 11:9, 11:6) win over Patrick Baum and had to play again a short time later. Since Deni Kozul lost 0:3 (7:11, 9:11, 12:14) against Grenzau's Yi-Hsin Feng, the score was 2:2 and the doubles had to decide the match.
The doubles of ASV Grünwettersbach, Tiago Apolonia(Ricardo Walther, played together for the first time and got the point for the decisive 3:2. The first two sets were very close, the third the clearer. "This was a perfect start in front of the home crowd for me and for the club," said Apolonia. "Of course, our goal was to win. I'm very happy to play in front of our home fans because I got a very warm welcome."
