Hard fought match - ASV Grünwettersbach in the quarter finals

ASV Grünwettersbach won the last round of 16 in the German Table Tennis Cup against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in a hard-fought match with 3:2 and thus qualified for the round of the best eight teams. The decision was not made until the doubles. Even before this match, it was clear that only clubs from the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) would be represented in the quarterfinals.

On the first four match days of the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) the two clubs did not meet yet, this will be the case only on the 9th match day (December 11) in Mainz. In the cup, ASV Grünwettersbach was able to practice for the duel with the Bundesliga promoted team and started like fire in the person of Xi Wang. After the former Maberzell player had won the first set against Abdullah Talha Yigenler with 11:7, he took a 7:0 lead in the second and secured this set with 11:4. By winning the third set 11:7, Xi Wang won the match and gave the Black Forest team a 1:0 lead.

The second duel, this time between Ricardo Walther and Yuto Muramatsu was again a clear affair, but now for the Mainz player. Walther did not get into the match and the Japanese player secured the match with 3:0 (11:7, 11:9, 11:6). Of his four match points in the third set, Muramatsu used the first one.
The players stayed true to their line in the third match as well - one dominated the action and the other hardly had a chance to win the set. This time Deni Kozul delivered an almost flawless match, defeated Luka Mladenovic 3:0 (11:5, 11:6, 11:4) and put ASV Grünwettersbach 2-1 in the lead. Yuto Muramatsu then tied the match at 2:2 and won his second match as well, defeating Xi Wang 3:1 (13:11, 6:11, 11:6, 11:7).

Doubles bring the decision

So the doubles had to bring the decision and this went clearly to Grünwettersbach. Ricardo Walther/Deni Kozul defeated Andrei Putuntica/Carlo Rossi 3:0 (12:10, 11:9, 11:5) and secured the victory for ASV and with it a place in the quarterfinals of the German Table Tennis Cup.
Grünwettersbach's coach Achim Krämer was correspondingly satisfied: "That was an important victory for us. It was difficult for Mainz to find the third point today. However, they had the best player of the day, but we deserved to win the match."
Missing on the Grünwettersbach side was Tiago Apolonia. "He is not at 100 percent and also not at 80 percent," Krämer reported. "Then it makes no sense to use a player who is not fit."

Quarterfinals are complete

The first two quarterfinal tickets were already secured almost a week ago by Post SV Mühlhausen (3-0 at 1. FC Köln) and on Thursday evening by Borussia Düsseldorf (3-0 at TV 1879 Hilpoltstein).
Yesterday, five teams joined them: TTC Neu-Ulm (3-0 at SV Werder Bremen), TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau (3-0 at TTC indeland Jülich), 1. FC Saarbrücken TT (3-0 at TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt), TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (3-0 at TSV Bad Königshofen) and TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell (3-0 at TTC Fortuna Passau). With today's winner ASV Grünwettersbach, the field of eight quarterfinalists is complete.
