GRÜNWETTERSBACH WITH A BRILLIANT HOME WIN AGAINST MÜHLHAUSEN
In the clash between ASV Grünwettersbach and Post SV Mühlhausen on match day 4 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), the hosts put in a convincing performance to win 3:0.
After being beaten twice by Post SV Mühlhausen last season, ASV Grünwettersbach wanted to return the favor and prove its home strength. However, they had not expected it to be so clear-cut in the end...
Better nerves in the deciding set
Both the opening match between Apolonia and Mengel and the third singles match between Walther and Habesohn went the full distance of five sets. The hosts from Grünwettersbach had the better end in both matches. Apolonia won 3:2 (11:6, 7:11, 11:5, 7:11, 11:7) against Mengel and Walther won 3:2 (11:8, 8:11, 12:14, 11:8, 11:3) against Habesohn to end the match.
Xi outstanding against Ionescu
The match between Wang Xi and Ovidiu Ionescu, on the other hand, was quite clear-cut. The first set went narrowly to the ASV player with 12:10, who used this first set win as the starting signal for a very confident 3:0 success against Ionescu. Xi went on to win the next two sets by a clear 11:4.
The ASV Grünwettersbach team was thus able to celebrate its second win in its second home match with its fans and move past Mühlhausen in the table, which had to accept its first defeat of the season with this match. Grünwettersbach is therefore currently third in the table.
Comments on the game:
Wang Xi (ASV Grünwettersbach): "Of course I'm very happy about our win, especially at home in front of our fans, who gave it their all again today. Our next game is away to Ochsenhausen, which will be difficult, but we'll definitely give it our all."
Steffen Mengel (Post SV Mühlhausen): "Of course we're disappointed that we lost here. But in the end, we have to congratulate Grünwettersbach on their win today and have to make sure that we pick up the points again in the coming weeks."
