Grünwettersbach strong nerves against Neu-Ulm
ASV Grünwettersbach took a big step away from the relegation zone on the 15th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). In their own hall Ricardo Walther and Co. defeated cup winner TTC Neu-Ulm clearly with 3:0.
ASV Grünwettersbach had already hoped for a giant step towards staying in the relegation zone last Sunday, but finally had to accept a bitter defeat against Grenzau. Against TTC Neu-Ulm, ASV wanted to do better today. And they succeeded impressively. Especially in the close game situations, the hosts were a class better. All five sets, which ended with 11:9 or in overtime, were won by the Grünwettersbacher.
Xi Wang: First calm, then in a hurry
This was also the case in set three of the opening singles between Xi Wang and Maxim Grebnev, which Grünwettersbach's old master only won deep in extra time, only to allow the young Russian a single point in set four. This set the course for the hosts. Since both Tiago Apolonia against Vladimir Sidorenko and Ricardo Walther against Lev Katsman won the close situations, the final score was 3:0 for Grünwettersbach.
Comments on the game
Tiago Apolonia, ASV Grünwettersbach: "It was a very strong performance of the whole team today. It was an important match for us, so we were well prepared. Even though the 3:0 score sounds clear, there were many close sets. I am very happy that we won."
Lev Katsman, TTC Neu-Ulm: "It was certainly not our best day today. We gave everything, but were just not good enough. At the end of the sets, I didn't play what I'm actually capable of playing, and then matches like that just get lost. But we will move on and prepare for the upcoming tasks now."
