Grünwettersbach celebrates smooth victory against Düsseldorf
In the last home match of the season, ASV Grünwettersbach celebrated another victory: At the end of the 21st matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), a 3:0 against Borussia Düsseldorf was achieved.
The jump into the play-offs was no longer possible for ASV Grünwettersbach even before the match, but nevertheless the Badeners celebrated another victory on Thursday evening. Against Borussia Düsseldorf, Grünwettersbach took advantage of the staff shortages of the guests and won 3-0 at the end of the 21st matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). With now 22:20 points, Grünwettersbach is still in fifth place, but can no longer catch up with Post SV Mühlhausen (26:16). The Thuringians had secured their last semifinal ticket on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen. Düsseldorf, on the other hand, is already the winner of the main round despite the defeat and will face the fourth-placed team in the table - either Ochsenhausen or Mühlhausen - in the play-offs. On Monday, Düsseldorf had lost the second leg of the Champions League final against 1. FC Saarbrücken TT.
"It went unfortunately very quickly in the wrong direction," Düsseldorf's Anton Källberg found on Thursday after the match. "We were not in such a good mood and actually had no chance. But still, we are in a good position in the standings and will attack again." Grünwettersbach's Ricardo Walther said, "Three days after the defeat against Saarbrücken, it was a tough game for Düsseldorf - their heads were still somewhere else. But we were able to use the momentum and celebrated a good end to the season. A 3-0 home win is always nice."
Tiago Apolonia gets break against Anton Källberg
Düsseldorf had to do without Kay Stumper (U21 European Championship) and Dang Qiu (WTT Champions Tournament) as well as the injured Timo Boll and therefore wanted to send Danny Heister into the first match. However, the coach had to cancel his duel with Wang Xi - Grünwettersbach started the match with a 1:0 advantage. Tiago Apolonia did not use his first match point against Anton Källberg in the third set, but then fought back in the fourth set and finally won 3:1 (11:2, 11:9, 12:14, 11:7). On position three, Ricardo Walther brought about the decision with his 3:0 (11:6, 11:8, 11:9) against Kamal Achanta.
The table tennis Bundesliga will continue on April 30 with the 22nd and last main round matchday. Borussia Düsseldorf will then take on TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell in the TTBL classic, while ASV Grünwettersbach travels to SV Werder Bremen. All matches will be broadcast live on the Spontent channels on Twitch.
