Grünwettersbach celebrates home win against Bremen

ASV Grünwettersbach has gained some breathing space in the bottom of the table on Matchday 5 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The hosts won 3:2 against SV Werder Bremen in their own hall.

With two victories, veteran Wang Xi was the man of the day. The No. 1 of the hosts won 3:0 (11:6, 11:4, 11:7) against Cristian Pletea in the opening singles as well as 3:1 (11:7, 7:11, 11:7, 11:7) against the Swedish European doubles champion Mattias Falck. The victory of ASV was ensured in the final doubles match by Tiago Apolonia alongside Ricardo Walther against Kirill Gerassimenko and Cristian Pletea.

Thanks to the fans

Defensive strategist Wang Xi also blamed the atmosphere in the hall for the home victory: "I am very happy that we won today. Many thanks to the fans for the super support. Big praise also to Tiago and Ricardo, of course. They fought for every ball in the doubles and deserved to win in the end."
Bremen's Kirill Gerassimenko did not want to reproach his team in view of the defeat: "It was really a tough match today. We tried everything, but unfortunately Grünwettersbach was that decisive tick stronger than us. Perhaps we also lacked a bit of luck at one point or another. But once again, our team gave everything today."
