Grünwettersbach: And suddenly play-offs?

Grünwettersbach: And suddenly play-offs?

ASV Grünwettersbach keeps its chance for a play-off participation in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). On the 19th matchday, the Karlsruhe team defeated 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT 3:0 in their own hall. The Saarlanders, for their part, still have the best chances of a place among the top four despite the defeat.

ASV Grünwettersbach impressively demonstrates how close the middle of the TTBL table currently is. Recently, the Baden-Württemberger looked rather worried in the lower regions of the table, now theoretically even a place in the play-offs is possible. Thanks to the 3-0 win against 1. FC Saarbrücken-TT, ASV is currently four points behind fourth place with three matches still to play.

Against the shorthanded Saarbrücken team, the preliminary decision was made in the second singles match of the afternoon between Deni Kozul and Takuya Jin. Kozul, who is still winless in eleven singles matches this season, defeated his opponent in five hard-fought sets. Defensive strategist Xi Wang had given the hosts the lead earlier thanks to an unchallenged 3:0 (11:7, 11:3, 11:4) win over Olav Kosolosky. For the young Belgian, registered in the 2nd team of Saarbrücken, it was his first match in this TTBL season. The victory for ASV Grünwettersbach was finally bagged by Ricardo Walther. Against Tomas Polansky, the 31-year-old was convincing without losing a set.

Comments on the match

Deni Kozul, ASV Grünwettersbach: "Ricardo and Wang Xi did their job really well today. I am also very satisfied with my game. I'm glad that I could help the team and end my negative streak. It was a tough match."

Wang Zhi, coach 1st FC Saarbrücken-TT: "Besides Patrick Franziska and Cedrick Nuytinck, we are now also missing Darko Jorgic due to an injury. Then, of course, it will be difficult for us against Grünwettersbach. But we are still in front."
