Grenzau picks up 2 points in Fulda thanks to strong Feng

TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell had a home match against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau on the first game of match day 7 in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The hosts were looking for their first win of the season.

While TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau has managed two wins so far, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell is still waiting for its first win of the season. However, they also went into the match without Wong Chun Ting. This meant that Filus, Poret and Meng had to do the job, but it was anything but easy for them against Feng, Walker and Kubik. Feng in particular is currently in strong form and has won all of his last four singles matches and should also play the decisive role for the visitors on this day.

Another two wins for Yi-Hsin Feng

After the first singles match of the day went to Filus 3:1 (11:3, 11:6, 9:11, 11:5), Feng won 1:3 against Poret (2:11, 11:8, 6:11, 7:11) and thus equalized the score for the visitors.

The decisive third match between Meng and Kubik started with two sets, which the Fulda player dominated and won. From the third set onwards, Kubik also got into the match better and closed the gap to 1:2, but Fanbo Meng played the match well to the end, winning 3:1 (11:3, 11:5, 6:11, 12:10) and giving TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell a 2:1 lead. This was his third singles win of the season.

It was now all up to Ruwen Filus, who had it in his hands to secure the first win of the season for Fulda - with the support of his own fans. But on the other side, Feng took to the table for Grenzau and was able to confirm his outstanding form. After being voted Player of the Matchday 6 by the fans, having won against Falck and Gerassimenko, he was able to score two points for Grenzau again today and took his team into the final double with a 2:3 win over Filus (12:10, 6:11, 15:17, 11:9, 7:11).

The decision in the final double

As in the match against Bremen, Kubik/Walker now had to play the final double after Feng had won two points. The pair were beaten by Bremen on the last matchday, but the doubles team from TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell had also not yet scored any points this season (they were beaten by TSV Bad Königshofen).

However, Fulda's hopes of their first win of the season were quickly nipped in the bud by Kubik/Walker, as they dominated the match from the start and gave Meng/Poret no chance in their 0:3 (4:11, 6:11, 7:11).

As a result, Fulda still have to wait for their first win of the season, while Grenzau are now in seventh place in the table at the start of matchday 7.
