Grenzau confirms upward trend in important duel against table neighbor Fulda

For the second match of the 19th matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau celebrated the fifth victory from the last six matches.

On Feb. 24, 2023, TTC Rhönsprudel Fulda-Maberzell and TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau met in the Table Tennis Bundesliga. Both teams were 14-22 before the match, but both Grenzau and Fulda had managed to win on the last matchday. Grenzau had even won four of their last five matches, but Fulda-Maberzell were determined to score in front of their home crowd and stand up to their opponents.

Feng can now boast a 9-1 record in 2023

In the first singles match, Patrick Baum and Ruwen Filus met. Although Baum won the first set, Filus went on to win the next three sets to secure the first point for his team. In the second singles Fanbo Meng and Yi-Hsin Feng stepped up to the plate. Feng confirmed his strong form and tied the match for TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau with a 3:1 win. In the trend-setting third singles match, the Fulda team hoped for a win from Wong Chun Ting, who has so far fallen short of expectations with a 2:5 record. The match went into the fifth set, in which Maciej Kubik had the edge in the end. The last single of the day also went the full distance. In the end, Feng was able to prevail against Filus and won the singles match 3:2 for Grenzau.

Voices on the match

Yi-Hsin Feng about his singles: "After winning the first set in the first match, I had good confidence and managed to win the match. When Maciej gave us a 2-1 lead, I wasn't so nervous anymore. Then against Filus I was down 1:2 and then I started to play more aggressively, which worked out well."

Ruwen Filus: "I was very happy to win my first singles because I wasn't so convinced that I could do it today. After the last match against Bergneustadt I was powerless again during the week and actually not able to play on one today, but I fought my way in. I had never played against Feng before. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough against him."
