Fulda with work victory over Bergneustadt
On the 18th matchday of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt and TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell met. In a hard-fought match, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell won 3:2 against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt.
The opening singles were played by Benedikt Duda for Bergneustadt and Fan Bo Meng for Fulda-Maberzell. Duda showed a strong performance from the beginning and won the match in three sets (13:11, 11:6, 11:5).
Immediately afterwards, Bergneustadt's Alberto Mino challenged Fulda's defensive ace Ruwen Filus to a duel. Mino had the better start and won the first two sets, but Filus fought his way back into the match and finally won in five sets (11:6, 12:10, 7:11, 6:11, 5:11).
At the intermediate score of 1:1, Omar Assar and Wong Chun Ting met. The reigning African Champion of 2023, however, could not counter the 31-year-old penholder player much and lost clearly 0:3 (7:11, 3:11, 3:11).
Benedikt Duda shows top form
In the fourth game between Benedikt Duda and Ruwen Filus, Filus had to be replaced by player coach Qing Yu Meng. With 11:7 and 11:8 Duda already showed that he was in top form this evening. Meng was the only one to win the third set 11:9, before the Bergneustadt player levelled the match 2:2 in set four.
In the final doubles match, Wong Chun Ting and Fan Bo Meng quickly took a 2-0 lead against Alberto Mino and Omar Assar and also in the third set, the Fulda players looked like the sure winners for a long time. However, with 12:10 it was the two from Bergneustadt who won the third and directly afterwards also the fourth set. After a total playing time of more than three hours, it was Fan Bo Meng and Wong Chun Ting who threw up their hands and celebrated the extremely close 3:2 victory.
Ruwen Filus (TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell) felt visibly relieved after the match: "We already had some problems at the start of the match because Alexandre Cassin could not play. We tried to go full throttle into the match from the beginning and delivered a very strong fighting performance. In the end, we decided the game in our favor with a bit of luck."
Relegation race remains exciting
TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell keeps the connection to the non-relegation zone and is now equal on points with TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, who won 3:0 at SV Werder Bremen at the same time.
