Fulda wins in the final double

Fulda wins in the final double

TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell celebrated an important home victory in the fight against relegation on Matchday 15 of the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). The Hessians defeated Post SV Mühlhausen 3:2 in their own hall.

Before this match, the form curve of both teams was clearly in favor of the guests from Mühlhausen. While Post SV has won seven of its last eight games and has thus moved up to fourth place in the table, the East Hessians have managed just five wins all season. Since the 0:3 against Neu-Ulm on the last match day, the lead over the relegation zone is only two points.

2:0 turns into 2:2

And the fans of the East Hesse experienced a furious start of their team. Alexandre Cassin, 3:2 (11:8, 11:7, 8:11, 7:11, 11:8) against Ovidiu Ionescu, and Fan Bo Meng, 3:0 (11:7, 11:6, 11:6) against Daniel Habesohn, gave their colors a promising lead. But the guests showed impressively why they are hard to beat at the moment. With their backs to the wall, Steffen Mengel and Daniel Habesohn kept their nerve and led their team into the final doubles with two five-set victories. But with that, the guests had shot their powder for the day. Chun Ting Wong/Fan Bo Meng left no stone unturned against Ovidiu Ionescu and Kim Taehyun and won clearly 3:0 (11:9, 11:7, 11:7).

Comments on the match

Daniel Habesohn, Post SV Mühlhausen: "Congratulations to Fulda. They deserved the double in the end. We won a few games before and lost one today. That's sport. We keep fighting and will try to be successful again in the next weeks."
