Bremen starts with a strong signal

On the second matchday of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the teams of TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and SV Werder Bremen met. Bremen ultimately prevailed with a convincing 3:0 victory over the Fulda team, which was weakened by replacements, and conquered the lead in the standings.

The guests from Bremen, led by Bremen's top player Matthias Falck, put a strong exclamation mark and left no doubt from the start that they wanted to reach for the top of the table. Fulda, on the other hand, had to deal with some personnel challenges. The missing Wong Chun Ting (preparation for the Asian Games) and the injury of newcomer Thibault Poret presented the team of coach Qing Yu Meng with a big task.

Aguirre turns the game after trailing 0:2

The first singles match of the evening brought a roller coaster of emotions. Fan Bo Meng from Fulda started furiously in the duel of the two left-handers and gained an impressive 2:0 lead against Marcelo Aguirre from Bremen. But Aguirre adjusted his game system in the course of the third set, which enabled him to turn the tide and decide the match in his favor with 11:3 in the deciding set.

In the second match of the evening, Fulda's coach Qing Yu Meng had to step into the breach, as he did on the first match day against ASV Grünwettersbach. However, Meng had little to offer against the playful class of Falck, who is almost 20 years younger than him. The clear 3:0 success (6:11, 8:11, 6:11) allowed Bremen to extend their lead to 2:0 against Fulda at the break.

Filus equalizes but is not rewarded in the end

By far the most attractive game of the evening was played by defender Ruwen Filus and Kirill Gerassimenko. Filus was eager from the start to pull the rudder for Fulda back in the right direction, but he did not find the right recipe at the beginning.

Gerassimenko, who had already contributed an important victory to the 3:0 win over Mainz a few days earlier, showed a brilliant performance in the beginning and put Filus in trouble again and again with his hard and well-placed topspins.

A thrilling duel developed in which Filus fought back from a 0:2 deficit in the third and fourth sets to equalize the match.
But Kirill Gerassimenko showed nerves of steel in the decisive fifth set and secured the third point for SV Werder Bremen with a tight 11:8.

After the opening match of the second matchday of the TTBL, SV Werder Bremen takes the lead in the standings and sets a strong signal for the upcoming matches. TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, on the other hand, will certainly be eager to get back on the winning track in the next matches and make up for the lost points.

Cristian Tamas, coach of SV Werder Bremen commented the victory as follows:
"We are happy to have won the second game, but of course we also met a Fulda team that could not draw from the full. It was still a close game, even though the score was 3-0 in the end. We are happy to take the points home."

Ruwen Filus found the following words: "We had a difficult game and lost annoyingly. The score is a clear 0:3. But two games of it were very close, where we also had more chances. Of course, we are very disappointed that we couldn't win. Now we have to forget about it and concentrate on the next game.
