Fulda secures its first win of the season

The TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell team had to wait a long time for their first win of the season. On Thursday evening, the time had finally come: the team prevailed 3:1 in the duel against their neighbors in the table, Mainz.

It was undoubtedly the basement duel in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL). 1. FSV Mainz 05 had recorded its only win of the season so far against Bergneustadt in October, while Fulda had remained winless to date. Before the clash, Mainz had therefore been placed above the Hessians. That is no longer the case. With the Fulda victory, both teams have a points balance of 2:18, although Fulda has the better match balance.

Fanbo Meng tipped the scales

The decisive factor in the match was Fanbo Meng, who was already trailing 0:2 in his singles match against Yongyin Li. However, this was clearly no problem for the veteran, who won the next three sets 11:7, 11:5 and 11:7. After this laborious victory, Luka Mladenovic brought Mainz back into the match with a 3:1 win, but Thibault Poret finally secured the winning point with a 3:0 victory over Carlo Rossi.

Both teams now go into a well-deserved winter break. On January 5, Fulda will then welcome the team from TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, while Mainz will face Saarbrücken.
