Fulda loses unfortunate against Ochsenhausen
At the end of the 17th matchday in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL), TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell lost 0:3 to TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen. What sounds clear, however, was by no means so. The Hessians lost two of the three singles only in the decisive fifth set.
Can Akkuzu had six match points against Alexandre Cassin and with the first one he decided the match between TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) for the guests from Ochsenhausen. However, until that point was reached, the two Frenchmen delivered an energetic offensive spectacle. Especially in the first three sets, both players impressed with their attacking balls. In the end, Akkuzu was the more consistent player, turning a 1:2 set deficit into a 3:2 win with two clear set wins.
Already in the first singles match of the evening, Fulda failed to turn the match around. Newcomer Chun Ting Wong also lost to Alvaro Robles in the fifth set. For Wong it was the fourth five-set defeat in a row. Despite trailing 1:5, he fought his way back in the decisive set and was even leading 8:7, but the unfortunate edge shot that followed prevented him from continuing his streak. Robles won the set with three points in a row. In the clearest match of the evening, Fan Bo Meng lost to Simon Gauzy. The Frenchman dominated the match. Only in the last set Meng came into the match better, but could not use three set points.
Alvaro Robles relieved - Qing Yu Meng laments bad luck
Ochsenhausen's Alvaro Robles was relieved after the game. "It was an important victory for our team. It was very difficult against Fulda. All the games were very even. We can be happy that we won. Everything was possible." Unhappy about the course of the match, Fulda's coach Qing Yu Meng said. "Congratulations to Ochsenhausen. But from the game, it could have been the other way around. Especially in the first game, we were very unlucky."
With the win against Fulda, Ochsenhausen is back in the race for the play-off places. They had recently suffered two defeats, but now have a four-point lead over TSV Bad Königshofen in fifth place again. For Fulda, on the other hand, it remains exciting in the relegation battle. They are in penultimate place in the standings, level on points with Bergneustadt and Grenzau, but with a much worse game ratio.
The 18th matchday in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) continues next Sunday. Among others, Ochsenhausen receives ASV Grünwettersbach. Fulda fights in Bergneustadt in the direct duel of two relegation candidates for important points for the class preservation.
